In the meantime you know your way around. But there are still many things which can be quite confusing during editing.

On this and the following pages we want you to get used to working with already reformatted.

Infoboxes

In this wiki there are two sorts of infoboxes.

  • the "usual info box", like the ones you can find on Wikipedia
  • a variable info box, where you can insert or comment out single rows if necessary.

Though the variable infoboxes are hard to handle, if you don't know the normal infoboxes.

Changes of the infobox (e.q. colour or display) will be immediately shown in all articles, in which this info box is embedded.

The ordinary infobox

An example is: Vorlage:En:Infobox adventure
Here the infobox already exist as template in the template-namespace and can also only be edited there.
The disadvantage is that it is fixed, so you won't be able to simply delete a line, if there is no information about it.

The variable infobox

Examples are: Vorlage:En:PersonBoxStart, Vorlage:En:PersonBoxRow, Vorlage:En:PersonBoxEnd
This infobox is explicitly not available as a complete template. Instead of that there are at least three template from which you can put together your infobox as you like. For this purpose one template is intended as head of the infobox (usually called ...BoxStart), one template for every row (usually called ...BoxRow) and one for the ending (usually called ...BoxEnd). In other respects you can treat them almost exactly like common infoboxes (u.s.).

How to write something in there

You have to know the content at first. So as first step call the template, then click on "bearbeiten". In most cases there is a copy example listed at the beginning or the end of a template, so you can mark and copy it with the mouse. Then paste it on the actual page and provide the "datasets" with content. The page Vorlage:En:Infobox adventure looks like this:

{{Infobox En:Infobox adventure|
|No=
|Name=
|Picture=
|Type=
|Edition=
|Campaign=
|Author=
|CoverBy=
|Illustrations=
|Experience=
|Pagecount=
|Price=
|ISBN=
|Format=
|ReleaseDate=
|Directlinks=
|Links=
}}

Important is: the cambered braces must start at the beginning of the row, so there mustn't be any space character before it. Furthermore there must be a vertical dash (=pipe-symbol) at the end of the first row.
The remaining datasets should be listed line-by-line for reason of clarity, too. So begin with the vertical dash (=pipe-symbol) left-aligned, except of the second row.
Now you can insert the corresponding information behind the particular =.

The variable infobox is a little different story. Let's have a look at the display of persons for example:

{{En:PersonBoxStart|Forenames= |Name= |Image= |Type= }}
{{En:PersonBoxRow|left=[[En:Body Height|Body height]] |right= paces}}
<!--{{En:PersonBoxRow|left=Hair colour|right= }}-->
{{En:PersonBoxRow|left=XYZ|right=xyz}}
{{En:PersonBoxEnd}}

Important: Here all cambered braces must also stand at the beginning of the row. For clarity reasons you should only use one row in total for each subbox.
You can insert the identifier instead of XYZ and respectively the corresponding information xyz next to left/right into the infobox.
You can also comment rows out and streamline the display in this way. As you can see, only the first three datasets are fixed, the rest can be formed individually. In return it looks a bit complicated at first sight.

Onwards to the style sheets in the tutorial!
