Description
[edit | edit source]A coat of arms is a unique heraldic design on a shield or escutcheon or on a surcoat or tabard used to cover and protect armour and to identify the wearer. It often includes various symbols, patterns, and colours that represent the identity, achievements, or affiliations of an individual, family, organization, or state. They often feature a shield, a crest (above the shield), supporters (figures or animals holding the shield), and a motto, arranged in a specific and symbolic way.
Blazon
[edit | edit source]Blazon is the formal language used in heraldry to describe a coat of arms or heraldic design. It follows specific conventions and terminology to convey the elements, colors, patterns, and arrangement of symbols in a standardized way. The purpose of a blazon is to allow someone familiar with heraldry to accurately recreate the coat of arms based solely on the description.
