The Bornland is a loose alliance of several feudal territories in the north-eastern parts of Aventuria. It can be divided into three regions, the The Marches in the south, Seweria in the north-east and Festenland in the north-west. Furthermore there are three free cities, the capital Festum, as well as Firunia and Norbury.
The reign of the feudal lords is very strict when compared to the Middenrealmian territories or the Horasian Empire, and it might even be called despotic in Seweria.
A relatively independant middle-class exists only in a few cities, especially in Festum, where merchants dominate the political sphere and a frail balance exists between the bourgouisie of the cities and nobility of the country.
The Bornland is governed by the Noble Assembly, by which and from which an official head-of-state is elected, the so called Noble Marshal. The Noble Marshal mainly fulfils representative duties though, while the Noble Assembly is responsible for legislation, taxes, foreign politics.
Bornish climate is characterized by harsh, cold winters and mild, dry summers. Spring and fall are characterized by unsteady weather.

Earthly Classification

The earthly model is without a doubt the historical Russia. This was verified by Momo Evers in her preamble for Magische Zeiten: the flair come from the great Russian writers.

But not only Russia, but also Poland:

The Polish nobility ( about 10-15 % of the population)originally was a pure warrior caste and they created in battle with the royal power something unique throughout Europe - a noble republic with an elective king on top, who actually was nothing more than an life-time elected crowned president.

The closely resembles the Order of the Theater Knights and the Noble Marshal of the Bornland.

Holy Order of Our Lady Rondra of the Theater in Arivor
Earthly archetypes of the Theater Knights Order are the Order of the Temple and the Teutonic Order.
The mystic past and the tragic end of the Theater Knights Order shows certain parallels to the Knights Templar. The foundation history of the Theater Knights Order is derived from the Teutonic Order and its mission to the east. See also the link to the Selemer Tagebücher.
The merchants of Festum
The Hanseatic League presumably is the role model for the merchants of Festum. The intention of the Hanseatic League was, besides protection of the merchants from pirates and bandits, the safeguarding trading interests. There are also parallels at the relative independence and autonomy of the business magnatea.
The Winged Cavaliers
The Polish Hussars can be regarded as archetype for the Winged Cavaliers.

Earthly Affairs

In the 4th edition (Basic Rules), the region's name was translated as "Fountland". In the current 5th edition (Core Rules) product line, however, the region retains the same name as the German edition, "Bornland".
According to Momo Evers the Bornland was the favourite region of Ulrich Kiesow (Magische Zeiten).
